Plymouth City Council's Resurgam: Covid-19 Economic Recovery Plan was launched in May 2020 as a direct response to the unprecedented economic shock caused by the global pandemic.
It is a highly ambitious forward moving action plan to support the city's economic recovery, to reduce the impact of Covid-19 and to deliver a more equal, sustainable and prosperous city post Covid-19.
One of the six key pillars of the plan is Sector Action Plans. We are proud of our strong base of existing Plymouth partnerships across the 11 identified sectors and are working together to support each sector.
Each month the sector leads meet to update us on the current situation for each sector and the progress being made on their action plan for recovery and how we, Plymouth City Council, can support that action plan.
For July, updates were provided for the following sector hubs:
Skills 4 Plymouth
An update was also provided by Tina Brinkworth, Head of Skills and Post 16 for Plymouth City Council, for Outreach Events held as part of SailGP earlier this month.
Highlights for the month include:
On 12-13 July Plymouth hosted the third Marine Tech Expo event with two days of virtual conferencing and exhibitions held to a global audience focussed on Plymouth’s strengths as a marine autonomous sector.
Grade II listed Market Hall was officially opened on 15 July. The brainchild of the Real Ideas Organisation, the Market Hall is now home to a spectacular immersive dome, which is the first of its type - 15m diameter, 210 degrees over the top, with a flat floor - in Europe.
The sun shone for the weekend of 17-18 July as Plymouth hosted the Great Britain SailGP
Don't miss The Hatchling - a giant puppet in the form of a dragon which will hatch and roam through the city, before taking flight from the coast in a unique feat of artistry and engineering on 14-15 August.
One of the highlight events of Mayflower 400, The Hatchling has been conceived by Angie Bual, Artistic Director of Trigger, the Bristol-based producers of extraordinary theatrical projects.
It will be brought to life in collaboration with a team of leading creatives including Mervyn Millar, part of the original creative team of the acclaimed stage production War Horse, and Carl Robertshaw, a designer who has created sets for the London 2012 Olympic Ceremonies, collaborated with artists including Ellie Goulding and Kylie, and is a five-time sport kite world champion.
